Welcome to the official website for the University of Pennsylvania Sailing Team. Here you’ll find all the up-to-date information about the team, news, scheduled events, alumni, and more. Penn Sailing is a competitive club sport at the University of Pennsylvania.
The University of Pennsylvania Sailing Team is an age old tradition. Founded in the dawn of collegiate sailing, the team has continued the tradition of fun, exciting and competitive sailing for decades.
During both seasons, we have a full weekend regatta schedule of intercollegiate races. We are part of MAISA (Mid-Atlantic Inter-collegiate Sailing Association) and sail both sectional and intersectional races as well as women’s and freshmen races.
Our sailing facilities are located at the Corinthian Yacht Club of Philadelphia. The yacht club is roughly a twenty minute ride from Penn’s campus. Our fleet consists of nine new Flying Juniors, which are double-handed competitive racing boats. They are kept on a floating dock, which means easier access to the water and more practice time.
Our fall season begins when school starts in September and lasts until Thanksgiving. In the spring, we begin practicing in mid-March and continue to the end of school. Practices are Monday through Thursday. We meet at 3:30 to drive to the yacht club and are back on campus by 7:15. We have regattas every weekend during the season and often send teams to different competitions on the same weekend.
